Spring Preview: 2008 Wedding Style.

In Invitations, Wedding, wedding invitations on November 26, 2007 at 5:03 am

This spring will be featuring a vibrant color palette of rich jewel toned accents.  Accenting classic wedding color schemes such as ivory and silver and gold with vibrant color creates a dramatic visual effect.

A popular choice for next spring is yellow!  Adding a jewel toned yellow to your theme can be done in a variety of ways.  A vibrant yellow bouquet is a stunning way to make a statement with bold color.  I simply love the look of lavender ribbon against a vibrant yellow bouquet.  Lavender and yellow is also a great choice for bridesmaids dresses.  A beautiful yellow sash is just the right touch for accenting the dresses.  Or instead of adding the yellow accent color to the bridesmaids dresses, create bouquets for them that are a reverse of your own.  Lavender flowers with a yellow ribbon accent will create a beautiful contrast to your own bouquet of flowers.

Invitations:  This coming spring features classic invitations accented with rich jewel tones and embellishments.  Crisp white invitations, printed with traditional black ink and embellished with bold accents.  A great way to incorporate color is by having the envelope lined with a beautiful print.  Think beautiful floral flourishes in a vibrant color.  Or choose to have a beautiful ribbon added to incorporate color into a traditional invitation.  Another  idea is to layer your invitation with vellum that is embellished with rhinestones (sparingly, not tacky!) in the color you have chosen to accent with.  Visit www.theclassicinvitation.com for a free consultation on invitation design.  The Classic Invitation offers custom designed invitations and can create anything you have in mind.

Center Pieces:  A beautiful idea for your center piece is to purchase large glass urns.  Any glass vase with a lid is suitable.  Fill the bottom of the vase or urn with clear glass beads.  Purchase flowers of your choice (like vibrant yellow flowers) real or silk and create small bouquets to place in the vase, anchoring the bouquet in the beads.  Take a piece of ribbon in the same color as the flowers and wrap  the ribbon around the bouquet and hot glue it down.  Get tapered candles in the same color as the flowers and place in glass candle holders around the center piece. Easy, inexpensive and elegant!

A winter themed wedding: The Nutcracker Suite

In Wedding, wedding invitations on November 20, 2007 at 6:59 am

Every bride dreams of a wedding that will be their own personal fairy tale.  They want their wedding to be a magical event that will stand out in their memories as one of the happiest memories in a lifetime.  When planning a winter wedding The Nutcracker Suite is a wonderful theme to consider.  It offers a rich, dreamy, magical theme that is perfectly suited for a winter wedding.

Color Scheme

When planning the color scheme for your Nutcracker suite inspired wedding I simply love the combination of Cocoa and Sugar Plum.  The richness of the cocoa is perfectly paired with a shimmering plum color.

Invitations

Several options are available that perfectly compliment a Nutcracker inspired wedding.  The first option is to use cocoa and sugar plum as the invitation theme.  Sugar plum colored stock paper printed with cocoa colored ink, enclosed in a sugar plum colored vellum pocket makes a beautiful invitation.  Another option is to have a nutcracker included on your invitation paper.  There are several ways to include a nutcracker into your invite, contact www.theclassicinvitation.comto discuss a variety of options from simple to dramatic.  Another great idea for an invitation is to have your invitation designed in the shape of a snowflake.  The Classic Invitation can custom design any style snowflake invitation that you can imagine. From a simple classic snowflake embossed onto a traditional invitation to an iridescent, shimmering snowflake shaped invitation the only limit is your imagination!

Music

Tchaikovsky composed some of his most magical music for The Nutcracker Suite.  The Waltz of the Flowers, or Dance of the Reed Flutes are perfect for your processional and/or recessional music.  Other compositions that are perfect for cocktail hour and your dinner music include Tchaikovsky’s March and The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.  Consult with your band or DJ (although I strongly would recommend a good band!) for more options to continue the magical mood throughout the night.

Entertainment

Consider hiring local college/university ballet students to perform a dance during your dinner.  Odds are they will know the Nutcracker Ballet and will be much less expensive then hiring a professional ballet troup!  The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy would be perfect!

Decor

Finding a venue that has fireplaces is essential!  A crackling fire is perfect for a winter wedding and is a feature the ties in with the nutcracker inspired theme.  Another must is candles, everywhere! The last and maybe the most important is the Christmas tree.  There are two thoughts on how to incorporate the tree.  You can either go the traditional route and get a beautiful tree set up and decorated as a focal point in the reception decor.  Or you can purchase mini Christmas trees that can be used as center pieces on the tables.  The tree or trees can be decorated in cocoa and sugar plum colored ornaments to create the perfect look.

Favors

Music boxes are the perfect favor for a Nutcracker themed wedding.  And you can find music boxes that play Tchaikovsky, that way when your guests listen to the music box they will be reminded of your wedding.  Another option is to give your guests wedding themed ornaments that they can be hung on their Christmas tree.  You can even have the ornaments painted with you and your fiance’s name and the date of your wedding.

Send Off

Get sent off in the perfect winter fashion.  Use snowflakes instead of rice!  You can either use snowflake cut outs or you can use iridescent snow that can be purchased at any major store this time of year.  I personally like a combination of shimmering sugar plum colored snowflake cut outs mixed with a little of the store bought snow packaged in an iridescent cocoa colored bag tied with a sugar plum colored ribbon.

Holiday Cards Featuring Your Wedding!

In Wedding on November 16, 2007 at 2:48 am

When planning out the pictures you want the photographer to capture at your wedding, why not plan for a picture for your Holiday card?  With a little planning you can create a holiday card that will share your wedding with friends and family who were unable to attend and remind your guests of that happy day all while wishing them a happy holiday!  One idea that I just love is to make (or have made) a sign that is big enough for you and your fiance to hold.  Decorate the sign with the holiday greeting of your choice.  For example:  Happy Holidays!  Merry Christmas!  Happy Hanukkah!  Happy Kwanzaa! Happy New Year!  You can choose to use just an elegant scripted phrase or personalize your sign further with either seasonal decorations or you can match the signs message with the theme of your wedding.   A great way to have the photographer shoot the picture is to place you and your fiance facing each other in the “traditional” kissing pose while you each hold the sign with one hand.  If your photographer retains the copyrights to your wedding photos consider having a friend or family member with a digital camera take the photograph.  This way you can have the cards printed elsewhere for a fraction of the cost that the photographer will charge you for printing or reproduction.  Visit The Classic Invitation to inquire about having your holiday cards custom designed with your wedding pictures today!  http://www.theclassicinvitation.com

Winter Weddings

Winter Weddings: Your own winter wonderland!

Winter is simply the most beautiful time of year to get married.  When I think winter the first thing that comes to mind is snow and ice, crackling fires, and beautiful holiday decorations.  A winter wedding is the perfect opportunity to have a lavish affair that is different from the typical cookie cutter spring wedding.  Here are a few ideas to help you get started and save some money!

Snowflakes!  To create the most elegant, beautiful winter wonderland wedding, consider choosing snowflakes for the theme of your wedding.  Think silver and iridescent white and cool blues.

Snowflake Centerpiece:  Creating a beautiful centerpiece with a snowflake theme can be easy!  First gather (or buy)  2 – 3 foot tall branches and spray paint them white.  To make them sparkle you can also purchase glitter spray paint that can be sprayed on once the white paint is dry.  Once the branches are dry, arrange them in a glass vase. (Can be purchased for $1.00 – $2.00.)  Next you can hang snowflakes, crystals and icicles depending on your taste from the branches.  Snowflakes can be purchased inexpensively at dollar stores.  You can also purchase diamond shaped beads at craft stores in packs of 10 – 20 for about $5.00.  Look for coupons and shop sales at stores like Micheal’s, JoAnn’s or AC Moore to save even more money.  This time of year you can also purchase Christmas ornaments such as icicles, long dangling crystals, and unique snowflakes that are inexpensive and can be used to create a chandelier effect.  Placing candles around the table will cause the finished center piece to twinkle.

Snowflake themed Wedding Invitations:  The snowflake can be used as either an understated theme in the invitation or it can be the highlight of the invitation.  Choosing to have your invitation custom designed gives you the opportunity to choose exactly how you want your invitation to look.  You can have snowflakes cut out in the paper, or you can choose to have a simple elegant snowflake embossed in a beautiful silver (or any color) on your invitation paper, or you can even choose a traditional invitation and overlay an elegant snowflake velum to match your theme, the possibilities are endless.  Styling your invitation with snowflakes will let your guests know that your wedding is going to be a “winter wonderland”. Contact http://theclassicinvitation.com to custom design your invitation today!

Snowflakes instead of Petals:  A very cute idea is to have your flower girl throw iridescent snowflakes instead of rose petals!  It is far less expensive than rose petals and is readily available this time of year for very little cost.  Your flower girl will love the title of “snow princess/fairy” just as much as flower girl!

Snowflake Wedding Cake:  For a new twist on the traditional wedding cake, try decorating the cake with snowflakes.  They can be designed in beautiful silvers to create a beautiful effect.  Or try white snowflakes on white frosting for an understated elegance.  Or for dramatic effect try a blue frosting with silver or white snowflakes adorning the cake.

The Origin of the Double Envelope

In Invitations, Wedding, wedding invitations on November 5, 2007 at 5:41 am

Traditionally formal wedding invitations arrive in two envelopes.  The outer envelope is addressed to the name and the physical address that the invitation will be delivered to.  The inner envelope is addressed to the person or people you intend to invite to your wedding.  Ever wonder why?  Why do we bother with two envelopes instead of just addressing one?  The answer to this question lies in the origin of the wedding invitation.

Invitations originated in the middle ages and were handwritten.  It is said that the first invitations were created by monks in England who were masters of calligraphy and were commissoned to create invitations for the royal family and the members of high society.  The use of invitations was not wide spread in part due to cost but mainly because of high illiteracy rates.

Before the advent of our modern day mail system, mail was carried and delivered on horse back or on a horse drawn cart.   This created a need to protect the invitation while it was in the process of being delivered to the guest.  Upon reaching his destination the mail carrier would deliver the invitation to the servant who would then remove the dirty outer envelope and then present then present the delivery to the intended recipient.  Thus ensuring that the recipient and the invitation are never exposed to the filth that the outer envelope accumulated on its travel.

Today this tradition has continued on the most formal of invitations.  And though the postal system has greatly improved and mail is delivered relatively clean, it is still used as a symbol of status.  Today it represents the richness and extravagance that will be your wedding.  It conveys to your guests that the wedding will be a formal event and not a casual affair.  The choice is yours!  One envelope or two (or no envelope at all!) the invitation that you choose will convey to your guests the formality of your wedding.  Visit http://theclassicinvitation.com for more tips on envelope etiquette.
